Beverly, Mass. - The Beverly Housing Authority has been awarded nearly $900,000 by the state for improvements to its public housing.
The money, a total of $894,147, will be used to upgrade windows, doors, roofs and other parts of its housing units, the authority announced.
The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Communities Development awarded the money as part of its capital improvements program.
Upgrades will be made to windows and doors at the Kelleher Road (54 units) and Cedar Street (50 units) developments, to the roofs of the Balch Street (26 units) and Story Avenue (four buildings) developments, and to the bathrooms at Upton Place (50 units).
Work will also be done on the parking lot at the Roger Conant development and the walkways and road surface at Upton Place.
The Beverly Housing Authority is also spending $337,280 in state money for low-flow toilets and water-saving shower heads at 482 state-aided public housing units and $545,538 in federal money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for exterior siding at the Hilltop Drive development.
The authority manages a total of 650 state- and federally subsidized units at 12 locations in Beverly.
